Ford’s iconic Mustang brand is further expanding its legendary status with the formal debut of the Mustang GT4 at the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit in eastern Belgium.
The Mustang GT4 is the latest in the Blue Oval’s motorsports efforts, dubbed “Ford vs. Everyone” by Jim Farley, Ford president and CEO. It’s based on the all-new 2024 Mustang Dark Horse™, just like its sibling the Mustang GT3. With the reveal, Ford officially continues an uninterrupted tenure in the SRO-sanctioned GT4 category, first entered in 2017. Like the Mustang GT3, it receives a bold, colorful livery adapted from Troy Lee Designs’ liveries for the Mustang GT3 and SuperVan 4.2. Troy Lee is recognized as one of the premier motorsports livery designers in the world.
Ford Mustang officially continues its tenure in the SRO GT4 category with a new Mustang Dark Horse-based race car set to compete globally in 2024, the second Mustang race car after the recent reveal of the Mustang GT3. Troy Lee Designs continues its relationship with Ford Performance through a third unique livery design. The Mustang GT4 is built in partnership with Multimatic and features a Coyote-based V8 engine developed fully in-house by Ford Performance.
With the Mustang GT4 reveal, Ford delivers on the promise to provide a Mustang race car for any kind of racer around the world, from the grassroots amateur to the professional race team.
In 2022, Mustang Dark Horse’s debut set the stage for an exciting family of racecars launching this year. This includes the new Mustang GT4 and GT3, and upcoming Mustang Dark Horse R. These models continue Mustang’s legacy as Ford’s most raced and successful nameplate, dominating tracks worldwide, from Daytona to Bathurst, and catering to professional GT racing and consumer track days.
With the Mustang GT4, Ford Performance strengthens its partnership with Multimatic, responsible for building each car. Ford’s in-house-developed Coyote-based V8 race engines for the GT4 will be assembled in Dearborn, Michigan. Mustang will truly race everywhere.
Incorporating advanced features, the Mustang GT4 race car boasts Multimatic DSSV dampers, a Holinger dog-ring gearbox, pneumatic actuation for paddle shifters, natural fiber body panels, and a specially designed aero package to meet GT4 category requirements.
